Academies, free schools and some faith schools set their own term dates and don't have to follow the council calendar — most stay close to it, but always confirm dates and inset days on your school's own website before booking anything.

Term-time holidays and fines

Taking children out of school in term time without the head teacher's permission can lead to a penalty notice — currently £80 per parent per child (rising to £160 if unpaid within 21 days). Requests for term-time leave go to your school, not the council.
