A programme of community eye-care clinics is being developed in Birmingham to help people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness access care.
Specsavers Home Visits teams are working with charity Vision Care on a series of clinics over the next 12 months, following an initial session at Birmingham Health Exchange.
The partners say the clinics will offer free eye tests, glasses where needed and eye-health advice in community settings.
Care in familiar places
The programme aims to reduce practical barriers to routine eye care by bringing services into places people already know, rather than relying only on conventional appointments.
Nikhil Sonpal, services development manager at Vision Care, said poor vision could affect everyday tasks such as reading information and managing appointments. The partners plan a mixture of pre-booked appointments and walk-in access, depending on local need.
Vic Khurana, optometrist partner at Specsavers Home Visits Birmingham 1, said: “Partnering with Vision Care on this eye care clinic programme is going to help make a real difference.”
He said the team was looking forward to delivering further clinics with the charity after the first session.
The partners have not provided dates for the remaining Birmingham clinics. Vision Care’s clinic finder, linked below, lists current services and access information.
