Brazilian athlete Fábio Rodrigues is preparing to attempt a weighted-carry world record at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on Saturday 21 November, in support of James’ Place Birmingham.

The stadium’s main athletics track is booked from 9am to 11am for the event. Rodrigues will attempt the Guinness World Records category “Farthest distance farmer’s carrying 100 lb in one hour (male)”, which involves carrying weights over a measured distance within the hour.

Rodrigues says he has spent around two years preparing for the challenge, developing the strength and endurance needed to maintain his pace while carrying the load. The photographs accompanying this preview come from his personal training archive.

He has supplied an acceptance email for his Guinness World Records application and a signed stadium booking confirmation. The planned challenge remains a record attempt: any successful result will depend on the required evidence being assessed by Guinness World Records.

In his message to Local Gazette, Rodrigues said: “It would be a great honour to be part of an event in Birmingham that brings together sport, a personal challenge and support for a local charitable organisation.”

Spectators are welcome, but Rodrigues says anyone planning to attend must notify the stadium reception in advance. The same advance-notification arrangement applies to media visitors.

Donations for the initiative can be made through Rodrigues’ fundraising page for James’ Place Birmingham.
