A film shot in the West Midlands is set to have its UK premiere at the opening night of Birmingham Film Festival on Friday 6 November.

All That Glitters will screen at Millennium Point Cinema on Curzon Street, followed by a question-and-answer session with members of its cast and filmmaking team.

Writer and director Peter Lavery says the coming-of-age comedy romance was filmed in Hagley, Clent and Bewdley during summer 2024.

Shakespeare meets a school play

The story follows a teenager who conjures the ghost of William Shakespeare to help him secure the role of Romeo in his school play and win over his Juliet.

The cast includes Paul Ready, Flo Thompstone, Tim Downie and Mark Lavery. The announced post-screening discussion includes Lavery, producer Joe Andrews and cast members.

Opening-night details

The programme at Millennium Point begins with a drinks reception at 6pm. Screenings start at 7pm with the short film A Girl Called Alice, followed by All That Glitters and the discussion.

The venue is Millennium Point, Curzon Street, Birmingham, B4 7XG. The director supplied a free Eventbrite reservation link for the festival launch night; ticket availability should be checked before travelling.

Details were supplied to Local Gazette by Peter Lavery of Clover Fox Films. A teaser trailer is available on the company’s channels.
