Birmingham City Council has launched a new campaign asking residents what the council should focus on next as it works towards a second balanced budget following financial difficulties in 2023.

The 'Alright Brum, what's next?' campaign will run for at least three years and invites residents to have their say on council priorities and spending through online surveys and in-person events.

What the campaign involves

The first survey is now open on the council's Be Heard website and asks residents about six priorities approved by the cabinet and detailed in the Fairer Birmingham Partnership Agreement. The survey closes on 15 November.

Cllr Roger Harmer, Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: "This campaign is about working with Brummies to make things better in our city. We are fully committed to passing what will be the council's second balanced budget since declaring itself effectively bankrupt in 2023."

Budget pressures and resident input

Cllr Harmer added that inflationary pressures and increased demand for statutory council services mean difficult decisions lie ahead. "It is only right that residents get a chance to have their say on what matters to them and where the money goes," he said.

The engagement will help develop the council's Corporate Plan, which sets out what it aims to achieve over the next four years.

Residents can participate in the survey at the council's Be Heard website, with a closing date of 15 November.
