More than 250 of Birmingham's heritage sites will open to the public during Birmingham Heritage Week, running from 11 to 20 September 2026.
This year marks the first time Perrott's Folly is featured in the programme. The structure is believed to have inspired J.R.R. Tolkien's depiction of one of Middle Earth's Two Towers.
Rare spaces and hidden locations
The week will showcase rarely-seen spaces normally closed to visitors, including the vaults of a former city bank, mail tunnels beneath the Mailbox, and Victorian catacombs at Key Hill and Warstone Lane cemeteries.
Guided walks and neighbourhood tours
Visitors can join guided walks around the Yardley Conservation Area to explore one of the city's best-preserved historic suburbs. Neighbourhood walks will also take place in Northfield, Harborne, Moor Pool and Handsworth.
Councillor Deborah Harries, Cabinet Member for Culture at Birmingham City Council, said: "Birmingham Heritage Week is always an exciting time to discover more about our city, from rarely seen treasures to unusual spaces normally hidden from public view. This is a brilliant opportunity for people to see our city through a different lens – including sites they walk past every day without knowing what lies beneath."
