Birmingham is launching a six-week walking challenge called This City Moves starting 7 September. Residents can join using the Go Jauntly app and choose a daily step goal of 1,000, 3,000 or 5,000 steps.
The challenge invites people to discover local walks and learn about Birmingham's heritage, culture and geography. New walks have been added to the app collection ahead of the official start date, giving participants a chance to practise beforehand.
Birmingham versus Liverpool
Birmingham is competing against Liverpool in a friendly rivalry for bragging rights and to win blossom trees from the National Trust. Every day a participant hits their daily step goal helps their team climb the leaderboard, regardless of how far they walk.
Cllr Rob Grant, cabinet member for transport, said: "There are so many wonderful walking routes around Birmingham, whether our parks and green spaces or taking in the city's culture and heritage. Walking and wheeling is a great way to get out and about, visit new neighbourhoods and get healthy at the same time."
The challenge is open to individuals, families, friends and community groups. To join, visit the Go Jauntly web page.
