Birmingham City Council has reopened a public consultation on plans to deliver up to 3,500 new homes to Druids Heath over a 20-year regeneration programme, in partnership with developer Lovell.
This is the third formal consultation period for the outline planning application. Residents are invited to comment before the deadline of Wednesday, 7 October 2026. The consultation opened on Monday, 7 September.
Key changes to the proposals
In a significant update, the amount of social rented homes has increased from 11.4 per cent to 20 per cent in the outline planning application.
The council and Lovell remain committed that, once regeneration is complete, at least 51 per cent of all homes in Druids Heath will be affordable.
All existing council tenants in the regeneration area will be re-provided for. Homeowners will be offered a financial package to enable them to remain in Druids Heath.
The proposals also include improved open spaces, play areas and other recreational facilities.
Background to the consultation
The consultation has reopened following legal action related to the outline planning consent, which was originally approved in October 2025. Birmingham City Council subsequently agreed to cancel the approval and return the application to Planning Committee for a fresh decision later this year.
Submissions received in the original consultation will still be noted, but this new consultation offers residents a renewed opportunity to have their say before the application returns to committee.
Support available to residents
Birmingham City Council and Lovell are working with Planning Aid England and Loconomy to provide free support during the consultation period.
A free drop-in event will take place on 15 September from 10am to 3pm at the Regeneration Room, Idmiston Croft. The session will help residents understand the proposals and the planning process, with independent support available for anyone who wants to submit comments.
Local households will receive information by post explaining how and when they can take part. Notices will also be displayed around the estate.
